Bow Street Hotel

The Challenge

Renowned for being one of England's most famous courts due to its history of high-profile cases, the Bow Street Magistrates is now being transformed nito a £125m luxury hotel and museum. The courtyard that once saw the Cray Twins will be redeveloped into a 91 guest room hotel, a restaurant-bar, fitness studio and original courtroom restaurant.

Access to site was via a 3.8m high entrance which was just enough room to mobilise the MP5000 series piling rig and install piles between the existing propping. 

The Solution

Over two phases, Martello installed 8no. 600mm diameter crane base piles to over 23m, and 8no. temporary piles used as a foundations for the propping system that forms the facade retention site. The temporary and crane piles were constructed from within the exisiting building, enabling works were then completed by the client in preparation for Martello to return and install the 334no. 450mm and 600mm diameter secant wall piles. A Klemm 702 was mobilised to site to install the 450mm diameter section of wall in a restricted part of site, this rig cored through redundant foundations to complete these tricky piles.
