Traditional underpinning in Wickham

Traditional Underpinning was required due to subsidence of the dwelling on the property

Technical Specifications

Mass concrete underpinning
  • 12 no. pins

  • from 1.8m dig level under existing foundations to 2.4m

The challenge & the solution

  • 12 no. pins were required, dug, shored to design, poured and Dry packed in designed sequence. The pins Ranged from 1.8m dig level under existing foundations to 2.4m.

  • Restricted access and low volume of area to work meant planning Spoil removal and Concreting of the pins to be planned in sufficient lead time. This was maintained to ensure an efficient duration of works and minimise periods of our workforce downtime due to deliveries.

  • Using a 1.5t Excavator and two track barrows ensured the space available was used effectively, whilst providing the workforce on site means to minimise manual handling.

  • Designed shoring allowed safe working for our workforce down the Underpin excavations to greatly reduce risk of collapse and objects falling into the excavations.
