Number of piles: 22no.
Diameter: 220mm
Depth: 6m - 11m
Able Piling were asked by the client to provide a piled solution for a new extension to their property. The project had extremely tight access for plant and equipment which was also accompanied by a high water table, making traditional foundations very difficult and expensive to construct. Both pile and beam and piled raft solutions were considered to offer cost certainty where possible. The client chose to opt for the Steel Cased Driven (SCD) piled raft solution, to help minimise spoil removal, plant required on site and negating any issues with the high water table.
Able Piling designed a bespoke engineered solution which involved supplying and installing 22no. 220mm diameter SCD piles using a D-1200 Premodrill piling rig and a raft solution. SCD piles were installed and the top 3m were pre-augered to prevent any potential vibration issues to the foundations of the existing property. To overcome the site/access restraints, this method was utilised due to the limited size of the ancillary equipment. SCD piles also produce no spoil, which in turn provided the client with a value engineered solution appropriate for the site and soil conditions present. Using this particular solution also meant that all works were completed from ground level and consequently, improved safety for site workers and the client living in the property. The piled raft solution meant that the client could continue with he superstructure build from a level working platform without the need for any backfilling or reinstatement.
