Kings Road Park

Redevelopment of the derelict Fulham Gas Works
Foundations for a new sustainable neighbourhood set within a beautiful park, in the Chelsea Design district.

Technical specifications

CFA piling

  • Ø 600 & 450 mm

  • depths up to 26,5 m

The Challenge

The multimillion pound redevelopment of the derelict Fulham Gas Works will deliver 2,000 new homes, a third of which will be affordable housing, set within 6 acres of open green space just off the famous Kings Road.

The majority of the gas holders on the site have been demolished except for one, which is Grade II* listed and believed to be the world’s oldest. The new development will bring new homes, a youth club and other much needed facilities to the area.

Contracted by the St William division of Berkeley Group, Franki UK have been awarded multiple piling packages across the project’s phases, each comprising between 1,500 and 1,898no. CFA piles.

The Solution

Using two of our Soilmec piling rigs, the SF65 and SR45, Franki were required to install 600mm and 450mm diameter CFA piles to depths of up to 26.5m.

Understandably for a site with such a history, coring was required to facilitate the piling operations. We utilised our spe-cialist Martello piling rig for its effectiveness in clearing obstructions
