The Challenge
Franki were required to install permanent bearing and king post piles complete with columns, which were required for temporary propping works to enable the final demolition sequence.
The piles will support a new residential and commercial development comprising of three blocks (two four-storey and one nine-storey). The ground conditions consisted of water bearing gravels over London Clay.
The Solution
Using the Soilmec SF65 piling rig, Franki installed 1450no. 750mm diameter CFA piles to 27m. Installing the plunge columns into the CFA piles was a technically challenging aspect of the job, which required the use of a unique reusable trapping off system. Franki were able to secure the columns at the correct level and verticality, ensuring the columns stayed within the required tolerances.
Franki offered a cost effective package and have a vast amount of experience in plunging steel into CFA piles.
