Marine works

BESIX designs and builds robust marine infrastructure worldwide, thanks to its own fleet and in-house engineers with decades of experience.

Engineering precision, marine power

Marine construction has long been a defining part of BESIX’s history. Since rebuilding Belgium’s ports and waterways after the First World War, we have steadily expanded our expertise in coastal marine works all around the world. Today, BESIX is a trusted partner for the design and construction of complex marine facilities in no less than eight areas of expertise, including locks, quay walls, breakwaters, jetties, marinas, shore protection systems, water intakes, and refurbishment works.

This strength is rooted in the synergy between two strategic assets: our in-house engineering and own marine fleet.

In-house engineering excellence

BESIX’s multidisciplinary engineering teams bring more than a century of experience and innovation to every project. From feasibility studies to execution, they develop tailor-made, cost-effective solutions that meet the highest technical and environmental standards. Most marine projects are delivered on a Design & Build basis, ensuring seamless integration between design, planning, and execution. This approach enhances risk control, accelerates delivery, and optimises value for clients.

Our own marine fleet

Since acquiring its first self-elevating platform in 1998, BESIX has steadily expanded and modernised its marine fleet to meet the evolving demands of coastal infrastructure. The current fleet includes two 1,100-ton capacity self-elevating platforms equipped with 250-ton cranes, two backhoe dredgers, 17 tugs, multicats, workboats, and over 20 crane and transport barges. All assets are maintained and deployed from a dedicated marine base in Ajman, UAE, which includes a slipway and full-service facilities.

Owning and operating this fleet gives BESIX strategic advantages such as flexibility, operational control, and cost efficiency. It enables rapid mobilisation, real-time adaptation to site conditions, full integration of project-specific requirements, and the adoption of innovative and eco-friendly technologies. This autonomy not only strengthens BESIX’s competitive edge in tenders but also ensures consistent quality, safety, and confidentiality across all operations.

By combining engineering precision with operational capability, BESIX delivers integrated marine solutions that are robust, sustainable, and built for challenges.
