Spanning 5,500 m², the building will feature a four-storey timber structure anchored by two concrete cores for stability. Designed with adaptability and longevity in mind, the wooden columns and beams can be easily dismantled and reused. This modular approach allows the building to adapt to future needs without requiring major renovations, significantly extending its lifespan.
Bouwcampus 2.0 will be the first timber building to implement the Earth, Wind & Fire system: a revolutionary climate control concept that that integrates passive cooling, bioclimatic design, natural ventilation and renewable energy. By leveraging natural elements such as sunlight and wind, the system efficiently regulates indoor conditions. Combined with solar panels and other sustainable technologies, the building will be energy-positive, generating more energy than it consumes.
Commissioned by the Province of Limburg and POM Limburg (Provinciale Ontwikkelingsmaatschappij Limburg), the project is being executed by Vanhout and Dethier. BESIX entities ComTIS Energy and ComTIS Services are also contributing: the former is overseeing heating and cooling systems, while the latter will manage long-term maintenance.
Construction of this state-of-the-art facility is scheduled to begin in 2025, with completion expected by 2027.
