The highest point of the new building of De Persgroep on the Mediaplein in Antwerp has been reached on Wednesday 6 February 2019. The building phase is now completed. As per tradition, 'the maypole' has been planted.
The 'maypole' was placed on the terrace on the tenth floor by Christian Van Thillo, CEO of De Persgroep, and Karel Vermeersch, Director Flanders at BESIX Group.
The new building will be delivered after the summer and will be the headquarters of De Persgroep.
Christian Van Thillo, CEO of De Persgroep: "Today is an important milestone as we honor the tradition of the maypole. It is also a great opportunity to thank for their efforts the contractor, subcontractors and workers who have been hard at work here since last year. The building will definitely become a new landmark in the Antwerp skyline.”
Karel Vermeersch, Director Flanders BESIX Group: "We are very proud that De Persgroep has chosen us to build its new headquarters. The construction is on schedule. We also find it fantastic that we're contributing to the revival of the neighborhood around the Central Station.”
The new building of De Persgroep is 22,191 m² big and 46 m high and will be the flagship of the renewed area at the Antwerp Central Station. The building is being realized by BESIX Group and the design is by Binst Architects. There will also be a brasserie on the ground floor, accessible to everyone.
