BESIX Watpac reaches important milestone at Kangaroo Point Green Bridge site in Brisbane
The construction of the Kangaroo Point Green Bridge in Brisbane has reached a significant milestone, as all four lower legs and cruciform of the mast have been successfully put in place. This means that the project is now ready for the next step: the installation of the impressive 95-metre-tall mast itself. BESIX Watpac, as leading contractor in the Connect Brisbane team, is in charge of the design and built of this new landmark for Brisbane City Council.
Halfway mark
Over the last few weeks, the lower legs and cruciform for the Kangaroo Point Green Bridge’s mast have arrived on-site by barge, where they were meticulously put in place. This accomplishment marks the halfway point in the mast construction, the centrepiece of the project.
The next phase involves the installation of the mast itself, an engineering marvel comprised of 14 individual components. These will be lifted into place with the use of a large river-based tower crane, a delicate operation which requires utmost precision and coordination to ensure that every component seamlessly fits together. Once fully assembled, the mast will reach a height of 95 meters and weigh a staggering 270 tonnes.
